Iberdrola Ingeneria, a division of spain's electricity utility Iberdrola SA, has received a $1.6-billion (€1.25 billion) contract to build a combined-cycle plant in Qatar, the company said Friday.
In a statement, Spain's second biggest electricity utility said the 2,000-megawatt power plant will have capacity to cover the energy needs of the entire population of Qatar, approximately 900,000 people.
The plant, with six gas and three vapor turbines, will be built in three and a half years in Mesaieed, Qatar, Iberdrola said.
