Real Madrid have secured the future of Roberto Carlos after agreeing a new contract that could keep the veteran full-back at the Bernabeau until 2009.
The 36-year-old Brazil international was out of contract at the end of the current season, but now looks set to end his career in La Liga after signing a one-year extension with a further option for a second year.
Carlos has been a virtual ever present in the Real line-up under new coach Fabio Capello this season prompting sporting director Predrag Mijatovic to fast-track his new contract offer.
Last summer Chelsea were linked with a move for the attacking full-back, but he opted to stay in Spain after ten years with the Madrid club.
