Spain's CMT proposes Telefonica fined 30 mln eur over Jazztel conflict

Source: Forbes Thursday 09 November 2006

Spain's telecoms regulator CMT has proposed that Telefonica SA be fined 30 mln eur for delaying services which permit Jazztel PLC to supply its clients with broadband internet, Expansion reported, without citing a source.

If the regulator's board approves the proposal, the fine will be the second largest after the anti-trust body Tribunal de la Defensa de la Competencia (TDC) fined the company 57 mln eur for 'abusing its dominant position,' in the Spanish fixed lined telecoms sector.

Jazztel has repeatedly alleged that Telefonica has been involved in non-competitive behaviour designed to block Jazztel's growth in Spain.
