The Spanish telecommunications giant Telefonica said Tuesday its profit rose 59.4 per cent to nearly 5.2 billion euros (6.7 billion dollars) in the first nine months of this year.
Turnover increased by 43 per cent to 38.7 billion euros.
Telefonica revised its full-year consolidated income growth forecast to 37 per cent, up from the previously expected range of 34 to 37 per cent.
Telefonica said the growth had been fuelled by business in Spain and the consolidation and growth of activities in Europe. The group has purchased British mobile provider 02 and a controlling stake in the Czech company Cesky Telecom.
Telefonica is also one of the biggest telecommunications operators in Latin America.
